v
Game assignments are communicated primarily through email, since it is
more efficient. Please check your email
often.
v You will be asked of your
availability each week at the beginning of the week for the upcoming Sunday’s
games. Answer as soon as possible if you
are able to work any number of games.
v Game assignment will be
communicated to you by email (by phone if necessary), before Thursday of each
week for games scheduled for the up coming Sunday. Please either accept or decline as soon as
possible by phone or by email.
v
It is important that you reply to your game assignment, especially
those you are unable to do, because the sooner you
reply the more time we have to properly assign referees to all games.
v
If you accept your game assignment, please honor your commitment.
v
After you have accepted your assignment, should situations arise that
would make you unable to officiate the game, you must contact the game assignor
as soon as possible.
v
Keep your FIFA rule book and your AYSL rule book handy.
v
Familiarize yourself with the rules of the game before each match,
especially the specific rule exceptions that apply to the different age levels.
v
If you have any questions regarding the application of any rules at any
age level, do not hesitate to ask your game assignor.
v
Wear your uniform properly and proudly, from the moment you walk onto
the field till the moment you leave.
v
Referee TEAM enter and leave the field together.
v
The way you present yourself can win or lose the approval of the
players and audience even before the game is started.
v
Be at your assigned game field at least 15 minutes before the game
starts, so that you have enough time to properly inspect the field and the
players.
v
Do everything to start the game on time, especially U8 games. Most of our fields have games scheduled one
after the other. Delaying one game will
delay all subsequent games.
v
If a game is delayed, play the full length and report the reason of the
delay to your game assignor.
v
Before the game begins, carefully inspect the field and all
players. When checking player’s
equipment, pay special attention to jewelry.
Remember SAFETY.
v
Before starting your game, be sure to discuss with your assistant
referee(s) on
v
Details of the game rules applied to the specific age level,
v
How to run the field, covering each other’s field of vision, judging offsides, etc.,
v
How to communicate with each other during the game, for example hand
signals.
v
Who is the primary time keeper in a dual referee system.
v
It is important that you and the other referee(s) working on the same
game have the same understanding of your game before it starts, so as to avoid
confusion among yourselves during the game.
v Focus on the game and the
players. Do not let yourself be
distracted by comments from the sideline.
v Ignore the spectators as
much as you can, but that does not mean doing nothing about someone who behaves
in a manner that disrupts the normal proceedings of the game.
v You must use the power of a
referee, but not abuse it.
v If a caution or send-off is
issued to anyone, be sure to note the player’s number, player’s, coach’s or
spectator’s name if possible and the specific reason for your action. This information is to be used in your game
report and will be used by the league to determine the penalty on the player,
coach or spectator.
v
Compare notes with other referee(s) if you were not the only referee
officiating the game. This is especially
important if a player, coach or spectator was cautioned or ejected during the
game, because league officials may inquire from all of you for what happened.
v
After a game day, please contact your assignor within 24 hours by email
or by phone and report ALL the games that you did. You MUST report these games in order to get
paid. Give the following information on
each game
v
Game number (if given), game time and field number.
v
Names of the other referees working with you in each game.
v
If you enlisted the help anyone other than those assigned, be sure to
report their names.
v
Any instance of caution or send-off, and its detailed reason.
v
Any injury that occurred while you are at the field.
v
You MUST report all cautions, send-off and injuries occurred before,
during or after the match as long as you are present at the field. For such incidents, a detailed report by
letter or email describing the incident is preferred in addition to a confirmation,
and be prepared to give a full account of the incident upon request from any
league official, which includes those from the visiting team’s league.
